Though we’re all advised to back up the data in our hard drives regularly to avoid losing sensitive (and sometimes expensive) information in case of disk failure, that is a good habit that is as hard to make as bad habits are to break. Hard Disk Sentinel Professional will monitor how your drives are doing (be them internal or external, HDD or SSD) and will provide you with that heads-up that we all need to prevent massive data loss before it’s too late.
Because trying to recover our valuable data from a faulty hard drive usually goes from very difficult and expensive to utterly impossible, having a tool like Hard Disk Sentinel Professional installed on your system will provide you with a powerful tool to foresee and even prevent all kinds of disk failures, and especially those that may render all your data irrecoverable. Just to make things clear from the start: this software tool is neither a backup nor a data recovery tool – this is a disk monitoring software utility that will tell you all you need to know about the health and performance of your internal and external drives in order to take action before it’s too late. Note, however, that the information it provides is fairly technical, so you’ll need to be able to interpret the data provided in order to make the right decision at the right time. Having said that, the “Professional” tag in its name shouldn’t prevent any serious PC user from having this tool installed on their system. The tool provides enough “easy-to-read” warnings to be of use for anyone using a Windows PC. more
Hard Disk Sentinel Professional can analyze any storage device connected to your computer – standard hard drives, Solid State disks, hybrid SSHD drives, USB storage devices, you name it. It works silently in the background, compiling real-time data about the temperature of your computer and its evolution over time, about the S.M.A.R.T. values, disk performance, etc. It also provides you with highly technical information about your hard disks, logical drives, ATA and Serial ATA information and features, details about the S.M.A.R.T. tests performed, and a Log tab where all events (i.e., problems) are saved. For the average user, the initial Overview tab provides with all the information they need to make an informed decision. There you’ll find, both in percentage and as a colorful bar going from red to green, the real status of your drives in terms of performance and health. It will also tell you if any action needs to be taken, and even the estimated remaining life of the selected drive.
You can configure the tool to warn you of any possible failures when certain thresholds have been reached, especially in terms of temperatures. You can configure alerts for low health levels, low free disk space, new log entries, and – most importantly – whenever the program believes that some kind of failure is likely to occur. The amount of reports, tools, settings, and configuration dialogs that can be tweaked at a more professional level are for you to discover. Suffice it to say that no other tool in the market will provide you with more information about the true state of your drives in one single interface.
Hard Disk Sentinel Professional is not a free tool, but it’s certainly not an expensive one. If its price tag looks to be a bit on the high side to you, think of the value of your data and of your own time, of how much you would pay not to go through the painful experience of trying to recover the information stored on your hard drives and the uncertainty of not knowing if you will succeed or not. Better safe than sorry.
